Digital Reading

I need some help making a decision here, people.

I have been a holdout for a long time but I think I might be entering the world of digital reading.

I've held out for so long because there's just something about holding a book in your hand that you can't duplicate with a piece of plastic. I've been a bookworm since I learned to read at age 4 and I've always loved having a book in my hand. To this day I still carry one around in my handbag in case I find myself without something to do for even a few minutes. There's something about the worn-in pages; their feel and smell and turning them until the last one feels like an accomplishment.

I've heard good things about the Amazon Kindle and I think I might like it. Download a new book in seconds? Yes, please!

Then there's the Barnes & Noble Nook. I've heard good things about this as well.

I don't know what I'm going to do, but I would like your input!

Do you have a Kindle? Or a Nook? Or do you prefer the retro <gasp!> book?

  1. Ohh, I have a Nook, and I LOVE it! Same concept as Kindle - get books pretty instantly. And I'm like you - I love the feel of a book in my hands. And the Nook doesn't even come close to that, but it's so much easier to tote around my Nook, versus multiple books. And there are quite a few NOOKbooks available for FREE, especially the classics, so you can grow your library at a pretty great price. :) And you can share some of the NOOKbooks - quite a few of them are lendable. :) Good luck with your decision!!

  2. I love the Nook because of the free books. But also, the Nook allows you to check out books from the library, again for free. You can not do that with the Kindle! Both are good, but free books are even better! And like Brittany said, it's so much easier to tote around. I took 107 books with me to Europe. I didn't finish one of them, but I knew if something happened, I would not run out of books. I remember years ago loading up 7 or 8 paperbacks for vacation. That takes up a lot of room. I leave mine in my purse. If I'm on the bus to work, I whip it out. I stuck in a line at the post office, it's there to read. I can not live without it!
